Schools Look to Save Money, Help Environment
The Fayette County School District’s sustainability efforts were highlighted in a July 23, Herald-Leader article. CMTA is working with the District to identify ways that each school can save energy. CMTA has engineered more ENERGY STAR schools than any firm in the state. On average, CMTA’s ENERGY STAR schools save $57,000 per year (based on 2009 average energy costs). Two CMTA Schools Receive Top ENERGY STAR Scores
Oldham County School District’s Crestwood Elementary School and Locust Grove Elementary School earned top ENERGY STAR scores. Crestwood Elementary (McCulloch Associates Architects) earned a score of 100 and was the first school in Kentucky to achieve this perfect score. Locust Grove Elementary (Scott-Klausing and Company) earned a 99. Crestwood Elementary is now the most energy efficient school in Kentucky.
CMTA Recognized at Solar House Reception
UK President Dr. Lee Todd personally greeted and thanked representatives from over 30 businesses and organizations (including CMTA) for their invaluable contributions to the construction of UK s.ky blue Solar House at an open house and reception Tuesday, June 14. The event was planned and hosted by the Colleges of Agriculture, Communications, Design and Engineering.
In the 2009 Solar Decathlon, s.ky blue finished second in the People’s Choice Award, fourth in the Public Exhibition, fifth in Net Metering and ninth overall in the competition. UK finished ahead of Ohio State, Team Missouri, Iowa State, Virginia Tech, Team Spain, Team Boston, Penn State, Puerto Rico, Arizona, University of Louisiana, and WI-Milwaukee.
CMTA Electrical Engineer Isaac Fedyniak traveled to Washington with the s.ky blue team to construct the home on the National Mall. Click here for more information about the reception and the s.ky blue project.

New Kosair Children’s Medical Center Featured in Business First
The new Kosair Children’s Medical Center, scheduled to open in May, was featured in the Structures section of Louisville’s Business First. The facility is targeted for LEED Silver and features geothermal heating and cooling, ICF walls and energy efficient lighting. It was designated Designed to Earn ENERGY STAR by the EPA. Magoffin Elementary School Receives Energy Star

Kentucky First Lady Jane Bershear traveled to Magoffin Elementary School (Salyersville) to recognize the school for receiving an ENERGY STAR. Magoffin Elementary School is one of the 31 ENERGY STAR schools engineered by CMTA. Click here to read more about the school.
CMTA Helps the Kentucky National Guard Go Green
CMTA engineered one of the largest solar PV installations in Kentucky at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Muhlenberg County. The 400 solar panels will produce 100,000 kW of renewable energy annually, saving the National Guard approximately $40,000 to $60,000 each year. CMTA’s Jeremy Lewis was named to Louisville Business First Partners in Health Care special publication. Partners in Health Care recognizes Louisville professionals in a variety of fields that make a significant contribution to the health care industry in Louisville.
Twenhofel Middle School Featured in High Performing Buildings Magazine
CMTA engineered Twenhofel Middle School was featured in the Winter 2010 issue of High Performing Buldings magazine. Twenhofel is the only LEED K-12 school in Kentucky. The sustainable features of the building were profiled as well as the Vital Signs system, the curriculum integration system used by the school. Louisville GBBN Office Earns LEED Gold Certification
The Louisville office of GBBN Architects recently earned LEED Gold certification. CMTA did the MEP engineering for the renovation. The February 26, 2010, issue of Business First did a short article on the certification.
