The Norton Brownsboro Hospital is currently under construction with planned opening in Louisville, Kentucky in 2009. The 300,000 square foot facility will be the first hospital constructed in Louisville’s rapidly growing east-end. The full service hospital will consist of (126) medical surgical beds, (16) ICU beds, emergency department, radiology department and surgical suite with (10) operating rooms.
The primary air conditioning system for the facility is variable air volume consisting of (7) indoor central station air handling units and (2) rooftop units. Surgery air handling units serving operating areas are provided with HEPA filtration. A central plant provides chilled and hot water to the air handling units. The central plant houses (3) 600 ton centrifugal water cooled chillers. Steam for humidification and CSR will be provided by (2) 100 BHP steam boilers. To improve energy efficiency, hot water for heating is provided by (4) 3,000 MBH high efficient condensing boilers. All chilled and hot water pumping systems are primary variable flow type.
The electrical service consist of two transformers feeding a double-ended 3200A main switchgear at 277/480V and distributed to panels and transformers throughout facility. Emergency back-up power is accomplished through two 1000 KW generators working parallel and connected to the hospital system with by-pass isolation type automatic transfer switches. Other systems such as fire alarm, nurse call, data/voice distribution, security, access control, etc. were designed for the facility.
