The Nelson County Justice Center was constructed to replace Nelson County’s aging and undersized courthouse. The 50,000 square foot Justice Center included two District Court Rooms, a Circuit Court Room and Family Court Room, each with jury facilities and Judge’s chambers. Additionally, the Circuit Clerk’s offices with the clerk’s record storage areas were included in the Justice Center.
An energy efficient geothermal HVAC system was installed in the building. Excellent indoor air quality was provided through the use of efficient energy recovery units. The electrical service for the building consisted of a 2000A, 120/208 volt, 3 phase, 4 wire service and an emergency generator for back up to emergency egress lighting, security, and fire alarm systems.
Telecommunications and power for the courtrooms were provided through the raised floor systems to allow complete flexibility. Specialized lighting and zoned control was designed for the courtrooms and rotunda areas. Security System requirements were coordinated with the Administrative Office of the Courts’ security personnel.
