The police station is heated and cooled utilizing a water source heat pump system. The heat pumps are located on a mezzanine mechanical level so as to minimize the mechanical space requirements on the main level. Temperature controls are direct digital type (DDC) and interface to allow night setback operation, improving energy efficiency. The water source heat pump system central plant is comprised of gas-fired boilers, closed-circuit fluid cooler and hydronic circulating pumps located in the main level boiler room. Fresh air is introduced to the building with a separate HVAC system. This systems supplies fresh air into and exhaust air out of the facility through an energy recovery wheel, reducing the overall energy consumption and providing excellent indoor air quality. Portions of the HVAC system are connected to the emergency power system to allow the facilities HVAC system to operate if there is a loss of power.
The electrical service consists of a 2000A/120/208V/3 phase service along with a 250 kw generator providing selective backup.Lighting throughout the facility consists primarily of 2’ x 4’ fluorescent fixtures with high efficiency electronic ballasts. Decorative pendants with fluorescent lamping are used to light the main lobby. The generator provides emergency power to egress lighting throughout the building.
In addition to a fire alarm, telecommunications and access control systems, a video surveillance system is present throughout the facility. This system monitors and records the parking lot, building entries, corridors, and public areas. Separate systems are present at the hard and soft interview rooms which record both audio and video.
